In 2000, Doug Kovatch took over the helm at Kovatch Castings from his father, Frank Kovatch. Over the next four years, Doug would place the business in a position for some rapid physical expansion projects and new certifications.
The year 2001 saw Kovatch Castings gain quality assurance ISO 9001:2000 and AS9000 certifications in order to make the organization globally competitive.
In 2002, Kovatch Castings sharpened its competitive edge with the acquisition of Nadcap certification in non-destructive testing as well as AS9100 Certification. Nadcap certification in welding was earned in 2005.
In addition to milestones in certification, Kovatch Castings has achieved extensive growth since Doug Kovatch took on the role of president and led the company into its second generation.
In 2002, the first expansion of the building was completed to house a state-of-the-art robotic shell system and a massive two-story shell drying system.
The year 2010 kicked off a second addition of 15,000 square feet. With total square footage up to 65,000, the shop footprint needed reconfigured to house a new foundry area with two state-of-the-art self-recuperating pusher ovens, a new metals lab, traffic centers for shipping and outside services, final inspection, straightening, and shop supervision offices. The expansion was completed as the company celebrated and reflected upon its anniversary of 35 years in business.
